Jay Leno's Comedy Stimulus Plan

I had a great time at the Palace tonight. This was the show I waited in line for free tickets for on my birthday. It was a great experience. We got there, and parking was free. We waited in line for about five minutes to get into the show, then as soon as they scanned our tickets, we got a free bag of Doritos and a coupon for a free Coke. Then we went down to find seats. We were right in the middle, facing the stage, maybe 10 rows up. We could have sat on the floor, but we decided we didn't want to try to look through people, and we wanted the elevated seats. Then, we had like an hour and a half to kill. We got there early so we could get nice seats. We chatted about a bunch of different things, just enjoyed passing the time until Jay Leno was to come on. At some point we noticed there was to be an opening act.

The opening act was the Sunshine Messengers; better known as the Palace House Band. They're the guys that play at all the Pistons games. They were awesome, everyone really got into it, and they played a really good 30-40 minutes. It was a pleasant surprise to be sure. Everyone really seemed to enjoy it, toes were a tappin'. Then they introduced a "special guest" to introduce Leno, it was Kid Rock! Everyone jumped to their feet to cheer for the Kid. He said a few cool things about Detroit, then out came Jay.

The first thing he said was, "It's great to be here in Detroit! Oh wait, I mean Auburn Hills, sorry." Already, everyone was rolling. He did jokes about politicians, airplane travel, dogs vs. cats, condoms in schools, getting older, every topic you can think of, he hit it! People were rolling. I was constantly wiping tears away. I could hear mom and dad roaring with laughter next to me. He told a funny story about going to get napkins for his mom for Thanksgiving, and coming home with sanitary napkins. He talked about how the world was changing, he just hit everything he said. It was a hilarious show! I laughed so hard. I'm so glad I got to go.

At the end of the show, he asked to turn on lights, and said a bunch of nice things about Detroit, and why he came here, and how he appreciated our place in history and society. Very from the heart. Then he thanked Coke and Pepsi for sponsoring the event, and of course, the Palace. And then we went home. And just for good measure, they were handing out free Pepsi and Pespi Max outside for everyone on their way home. It was an awesome evening, and we didn't spend a dime! Which, by the way, was the whole point. So, Thank You Jay Leno!! It was perfect!!

Sparty ON!

Had a sweet weekend. Friday went out with TJ, and PJ and the boys again. We went to Pub 13, well, actually, the bar above Pub 13. Had a great time, went to bed in the equipment room at 3:30 am, and woke up at 6:00. I was tired, but at least EMU Football bought a nice breakfast for everyone. That helped with the hangover, or lack of one. The scrimmage went pretty good, that was fun. Then I went home, and took a nappy... and then my phone rang.

Hough was on his way back from Sandusky, Mi. He wanted to know where I was going to watch the Michigan State vs. UConn game. I said I had no plans. So... I met up with him and some friends, and we went downtown. After looking for a place to park for a while, we ended up in Greektown. We watched the game at Malaka's Detroiter Bar, and of course went crazy when State won. Then we went to BDubs for the UNC vs. Nova game, and I was back and in bed by midnight, it was perfect. What a great time in the D/Ypsi.

This is the only picture that has surfaced from Saturday, there were six of us in this car...

Hooray for Ypsi!

I went out to Ypsi Saturday night. I laughed so hard I almost wet my pants, I had such a good time, it was insane. Got to hang out with PJ, TJ, Steve, Fretz, Chad, and a bunch of other football guys. Classic. Also went to the softball house for a while, in the pouring rain, drunk. Yea, that was a crazy ass night. Treppa went through a wall, the "bonfire" was really just them burning their garbage, and we threw a few hundred paint balls at their house. Awesome.

In more creativity, I made a new wallpaper for myself this afternoon. I needed a new one anyway.

Odds and Ends, well, not ends, just odds.

Apparently the new Lions logo might have leaked. The NFL shop was selling collectible 18 wheelers (because apparently someone buys this crap) and the 18 wheeler for the Lions had a new logo and script. Shortly after this was noticed, it was taken down.
I like it, I'm just happy they kept the Honolulu blue. It's that way my entire life, and I don't care much for change. And if you think change is good, may I remind you of the Pistons Teal and Maroon disaster. Anyway, now I'm excited to see the new uniforms...

Also, for all you Lost fans, (which I understand none of you are) there was a free Geronimo Jackson download on iTunes, which of course I got. It made me chuckle.

I also love my new Adidas bounce basketball shoes. They may be my favorite so far.

Birffdizzle

25. This may be the least I've freaked out about a birthday. I didn't sit back and reflect, I didn't go all crazy with, "What have a done the last year?" I didn't even go nuts about renewing my license. It just came and went. I spent it with good friends out in Farmington. I spent it playing with my new iPod Touch. I spent it having a wonderful dinner with my mom at Hector and Jimmy's, where I got the ribs. I spent it at the Red Wings game with my Dad, which we won. I spent it at Eastern Michigan. I spent it opening a card from my sister. I am very pleased with the way it went.

There is a German woman in my house. She's a very nice lady. She brought me a soccer ball signed by the German team she follows, and a few World Cup 2006 posters. I like them a lot. She's here for two weeks. Honestly, I just hope I'm not left alone with her too long, cause I don't really have too much to talk about. But it sounds like she's gonna be pretty busy, so I'm not too worried about it.

I have no news concerning the Graduate Assistant spot. I am hoping to know more about this next week. My ego could use this!

Carolyn is running the Chicago marathon. I am not, but I wish I were.

Geared Up!

I agreed to work EMU's spring football practice. I just wanted something to do. I got a sweet new EMU Football jacket and workout shirt. And I also ran into TJ Lang, who is going to be drafted in April, and caught up with him a bit.

I was talking to Jay that I wanted to talk to Jim Streeter to see if he was looking for Graduate Assistants for the fall. Turns out, he's looking for two! So sent Jay me resume, and he's gonna send it off to Jim. And it's perfect because I already know how to do a lot of that job, I know Jim, he's knows Bill Roose, my boss at the Red Wings, and I'd get a Masters Degree for free!

So I am really hoping that works out. Eastern continues to be one of the best things that has ever happened to me.

More Creativity

I got a new phone! Well, actually, I got the same kind of phone as I had before, but this one works, which is nice! I also ordered my iPod touch, so that whole plan actually came together.

I went out to Jackson Friday night to hang out with Alan's band. I had a fun time, and I took a bunch of pictures for them, just to play around with. But at the bottom is what I did today, I like it a lot. What can I say, I like themes.

Saturday I was at the hospital all day with dad who fell and hurt himself, and had the biggest, most horrible bruise I've ever seen. He's fine, but there was a scare for a bit because of his blood thinner medication. Then I went out to James' house for some beer and Rockband. A productive weekend, kind of.

Anyway, here's the Hollow Drive pictures.

From the Ashes

I got my car back, all is well, just a wiring thing, and my exhaust is better too, so crisis averted there. But then I got the creative bug, so I made this for Alan. His band name is Hollow Drive, and their first album is going to be called From The Ashes.

Help me with my Zune? Oh wait, I have an ipod like everyone else.

I think I have a solution to my phone problem. Since I hardly use my phone enough to justify spending a bunch of money, I am going to just pay to get mine replaced, and buy and ipod touch. I found out that you can buy the 1st generation ipod touch Refurbished for a lot cheaper than buying a new one. It doesn't have the internal speaker, but it does everything else for a $10 software upgrade, so why not? I feel a lot better buying something like that from the actual manufacturer. It's like what Dell does, selling the ones that are returned, and have been fixed by the Dell, so it's like they're brand new, but they charge a lot less. So anyway, I'm happy about this plan, until it inevitably blows up in my face, which it will, but whatever.

My car is acting up again. I took it back into Greg, cause the battery light came back on. Then when I went to take it up there, it didn't come on. I think my car is just fucking with me, to get even with me for all the mean things I said it about it. So Greg is looking at it for me. Hopefully it's nothing, but it's not.

I went to renew my license. At first I forgot they take your picture, so I went back home, and washed my hair and shaved, and drove back. It's really convinient to have one in Highland now. Makes life easy. Anyway, the point here is that I'm gonna be 25 in a couple weeks, and I feel old. On top of that, the ONLY thing I have on my calendar for March is the Red Wings game on the 17th. (Against Philly, it's gonna be a good one.) So, to sum up, I still haven't fixed my phone, my car still isn't working right, I have no social calendar, I am poor, and now I am approaching a quarter century. I know it sounds like I'm depressed, I'm not. It just is what it is. And one day, when I have money, and a new car, and working phone, and I'm looking through the internet on my ipod touch surrounded by friends, I am hoping I can remember this (past six months or so) as the worst it got. If so, I'll be fine.

Musings...

I want a new cell phone, I actually really need a new phone. But this just isn't something I want to drop $200 on. I just don't use my phone enough to justify this. But the reality is that is what these things cost, at least. Dad said since my birthday is coming up, I could combine that into my present. Which is nice, but then I'm afraid I'm going to buy it and hate it. Honestly, I can't think of anyone who really likes their phone, which makes me nervous. And I always get the worst buyers remorse on things like this. Well, I guess to be fair, I get buyers remorse on everything over $20.

I wish I had more friends who were into sports. Opening day in Toronto is against the Tigers, and we could go for like $15 a person, even though it's on a Monday, it'd be fun.

My stomach still hurts, I woke up to... take care of business... twice last night. That's probably not good. And chewing these tums isn't helping as much as you'd think.

Holy Crap, Chicago!

I finally got to meet my niece and nephew. They are the most adorable babies I've ever seen. I had a fun time out in Chicago too.

I got out there Sunday afternoon, and got to play with the babies until I went over to Al's to hang out, cause that's where I stayed. This week was a series of doctors appointments, shopping, running random errands, and doing other people's laundry. Plus playing with babies and feeding babies, and other fun events. Honestly, it was too long of a week to remember every detail. But Bryan and I went to see Friday the 13th on Saturday, which was exactly what I expected, Taken was better. We went out to Parrots last night, and I went 4-0 in cut throat. But mostly, I just played with babies. It was fun.

Also, Bryan got me that Mohawk hat I was talking about. It's awesome, and I love it. I enjoyed being able to spend so much time with the babies. Plus me having a car really helped them out, which I'm glad I could do.

Another eventful day

No baby update. But I went to pick up my car, and the battery light was still on. So I told Greg, hey, it's still on. So he pulled it back in, and yup, my alternator was dead. So, slightly (incredibly) pissed, I decided to drive out to Novi to get the bears I wanted for Bryan's kids. Well, I got there, and the turn around on the embroidery was a week! So, I told them no thanks, and went home. Then dad called and told me that there was this place in Chelsea I might want to check out. So I did, they said they could do it in about 5 minutes. It's not embroidery, it's screen pressed, but I worked with that at Eastern, it's not going anywhere. So I went out there. Not only were the bears freakin adorable, but they were cheaper too! I was, and still am, really excited to give the kids their bears. They are going to love them! I made sure the woman put on there The Chelsea Teddy Bear Co., above the little picture of bears and their names and dates. And there's a little bow on there, I just love them, I almost want to keep them for me!

So then on my way home, I got a call from Greg, and he replaced my alternator, twice (since the first one didn't do so well), and that it was ready. He felt bad about the delay, so he gave me the alternator at cost, which was nice of him. And really, that's why he's my guy. Then I went and got new tires, and came home.

Now I am ready to go out tonight! Even though I couldn't find the gift I wanted to get for Alex, I can have a good time tonight.

Good news and Good news

Well, the babies are perfect. Sully is already off the breathing help, now he's just under observation. Bryan and Al were at the hospital today. Al was taking pictures on his iphone, so here's Aubrey and Sulley.

Aubrey Lucille

Sullivan Linus

In other news, I took my car in to get my alternator fixed. Gregg called me to tell me it wasn't my alternator, it was just my battery! And my brakes are fine, he grinded all the crap off of my rotors, and all is well. I gotta get new tires and an oil change tomorrow, but still, awesome.

Aubrey and Sully!

It's official! The babies are here! Aubrey Lucille Gluth and Sullivan Linus Gluth are born and doing great! Aubrey is perfect, no problems, already breast feeding. Sully is a little underdeveloped, his lungs are only 88% percent what they should be, so he's in an incubator, getting taken care of, but he'll be fine. How about that! TWO new Gluths. It's exciting. I am going out either Saturday or Sunday, I'm excited as all hell to meet my new neice and nephew.

Primerica and Babies

So we talked about the mystery caller. I got a hold of Mr. Panos today. He said he worked for a financial company, and he saw my resume which suggested to him I might be a "people person." So he wanted me to come in for a kind of group presentation, then we'd talk one on one about the opportunities available. He never did mention the name of the company he worked for. So he sent me an e-mail with address and time of our meeting. Well, that's when the red flags starting popping up. First off, he called from a cell phone, not a business line, which seemed odd, but not crazy. Second, his e-mail was from a yahoo account. A little more odd. So, I looked at the address, and found out it was the address for Primerica Financial Services. It's a new age pyramid company where everyone is a part time independent contractor, and it's just a bad, bad thing. So after finding everything out about this company, I sent another e-mail that said thanks, but no thanks. So, thus ends the mystery caller saga.

In other news, Natalie was dilated 5 cm today, she was at the hospital, and both babies are breached. (Which I found out means they would come out feet first, which is bad.) So they are gonna do a C-Section to get the babies out, so I am gonna be an uncle any minute now!!

Feel The Rain

There have been a few songs stuck in my head. The first on I saw on MTV Hits, which is a great channel by the way, on the Veronicas' hitlist. (The Veronicas, however, are awful) Anyway, it's Natasha Bedingfield - Pocket Full Of Sunshine. And while that's a cool song, I actually like Unwritten better, lyricly, it's a cool song. And it doens't hurt that she's a smoking hot bitty.
I also love the new Jay-Z song Roc Boys. I've been walking around all weekend whistling the tune to it. Jay-Z was already my favorite rapper, but this one flows so well, it's actually a little insane. I heard he just walks into a studio, raps, and walks out, he doesn't write anything down, he just does his thing. Which begs the question: Why doesn't he put out more albums! Anyway, Roc Boys = Awesome.

Another one stuck in my head is Kanye West - Coming Home. It's just perfect. Kanye may be a douche in real life, but he's a great artist. And the new T.I./Justin Timberlake song Dead and Gone. I guess I'm in a pop music mood this week.

Babies are coming...

My trip to Chicago was productive. We got Bryan prepared for his impending baby scenario. We did shopping, laundry, put things together we got for him at Ikea, cleaned, threw stuff away, donated stuff to the Salvy, moved some stuff to Al's house and rearranged furniture. I also assembled some baby strollers/infant car seats. We were going to assemble a crib, but we didn't get that far, we just ran out of time. So he'll have to figure that one out himself. Anyway, I feel a lot better about him having babies, like he's a little more ready to take it on.

On Saturday, Bryan and I took the kids to the comic book shop by his house, because the artist who does Tiny Titans was there signing books and drawing sketches. Bryan got me this copy, the first issue, signed. It's for kids, but I like it, it's cute, and it was fun to meet the guy, and the kids loved it. And while we were there, I got a copy of the Spiderman comic that has Barack Obama. So that was a nice little treat.

We also went to the place where Bryan works. I've been over there before, but I'd never been in any of the stores. They're pretty cool. It's called The Alley, and it's apparently a destination for punk, rock and goth kids all over the country. It's a sweet store, well it's actually a bunch of stores all in one area. I get myself a new pair of the yarn gloves I love so much. And I also saw the coolest hat ever, it was a winter hat that had a mohawk sewn in it. It sounds lame, but it's not, it's awesome. I want it. They had some other cool stuff too. I also met the boss, and learned a little about him, so that was neat as well

Also got to hang out with Al and Tab a bit. Watched Tropic Thunder Thursday night, and I walked around all weekend quoting Tom Cruise, "Take a step back so that you can literally, FUCK YOUR OWN FACE!!!" We also watched Zach and Miri Make A Porno. I love that movie too. We hung out, talked about Hollow Drive a bit, and had a good time.

So, not a bad weekend. Now we wait for ALG and SLG.

The Sweet Touch of Love

I love this commercial. I think it's hilarious. It's not new, but the song - Sweet Touch of Love by Allen Toussaint - has been stuck in my head for a few days. My brain keeps going, "That's the sweet touch of loooove... ooooooaaaaahhhhhh."

I'm still not gonna buy it though.

Job fair and Mystery caller.

I went to get money to park for the job fair at the Palace. On the way, the battery light came on in my Neon, and I am now fairly sure that my alternator is no longer. So that would be the bad news.

The job fair went well, however. I talked to the Tigers first, and they are offering an internship, but it pays, $1,000 a month. The woman from the Tigers is going to call me next week about that opportunity. There is reason to get excited about that. I also talked to the Cavaliers, Blue Jackets, Pacers, Hawks, Pistons, Mad Ants, and a bunch of other companies. It was a really well run event. I was very excited to see a familiar face as soon as I entered the Palace. I saw an old friend from Eastern, Emmit, in the lobby. He told me that he landed a sports anchor job in Mississippi, and that he hated it, so he came back to find something else. We went to a lot of same companies, and it was nice to have someone to talk to, because some of the lines were really long. This was actually a good thing, a lot of the people were taking a lot of time to talk to everyone, and I enjoyed that.

Also while walking around, Michael Curry, current Pistons head coach, was walking around, and I got to meet him. That was pretty exciting, even though there's a good chance he won't be the coach much longer, cause he's not very good. It was still cool to see him make an appearance.

Well, I was done at around 4, and the game wasn't until 7:30. But I was worried that if I waited, and tried to drive home in the dark with my headlights on, I wouldn't make it, what with no alternator. So I drove home, and missed the game, which bummed me out.

When walking to my car, I got a voicemail from a man who said he was calling about my resume. He called my cell phone and the house. But neither time did he say what company what he was representing, and since I've sent out a million resumes, I have no idea who this guy is. But I called him back, and left a voicemail, so hopefully, we can solve that mystery tomorrow.

First Post, again.

I tried blogger a while ago, it stalled. However the current flow in the tide seems to suggest that people are getting away from the livejournal and heading to the more public forum of blogger. So I may as well follow suit. And here I am, in all of my cynical glory to pontificate on all the things that are on my mind at any given time. There are a few things stirring around tonight, but I'll delay long enough to wrap my head around this new format, and continue to watch this Red Wings game and prepare myself for the Job Fair at the Palace tomorrow, for which I am growing more and more nervous. I just think it would be great if something good came out of this. So it's really as much excitement as nervousness. There will be many Camel Lights smoked tomorrow.
